The budgetary outlay for the industry in the 12th Five Year Plan has been finalised at Rs. 2550 crore including two more schemes. One of the new schemes entails Rs. 300 crore for the development of Small tea growers because the productivity of this sector could immensly improve the overall picture of the country's total tea output. The other new scheme having an outlay of Rs. 50 crore was meant to implement regulatory measures to monitor tea quality.
According to Dr. S Ramu, a member of the tea Board, the revise outlay for Plantations Development would be Rs. 800 crore, for quality upgradation and Product Diversification Rs. 500 croe, for market Promotion Rs. 400 crore, for Human Resources Rs. 300 crore and for Reasearch and Development Rs. 200 crore.
The Tea Board's ambitious tea production target is 1185mkg at the end of the 12th plan period.
